Project Kick-off: MYONABLER@VR

Non-surgical treatments for Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) target the reduction of compressive loading in the knee joint due to the relationship between excessive loading and KOA progression. During this project we are going to combine musculoskeletal simulations with a VR application to teach health/KOA adults to alter the activation of their redundant lower-limb muscles, which reduced knee loading, demonstrating that coordination retraining as a valuable new conservative treatment to offload osteoarthritic joints. Our approach aims at transforming low cost - gaming peripherals - such as OyMotion EMG band and Oculus Quest 2 HMD into telerehabilitation devices to the availability of the patient at home in order to guarantee the sustainability, availability, and accessibility of the system/intervention/rehabilitation program during COVID 19. Integration of MYONABLER@VR with SHAPES, will allow pushing or pulling its data to central or distributed SHAPES platforms for data collection - with its data models - during the SHAPES pilots in a secure and interoperable way. This will be done by making it “SymbIoTe L1 enabled”, i.e. by integrating our platform to the symbIoTe Cloud components and the registration to symbIoTe Core Services, i.e. by providing a well-described MYONABLER@VR API compatible with the SHAPES (semantic) data models.

Myonablers@VR is a project funded from a SHAPES H2020 Open call (https://shapes2020.eu/)
